Description:

The Energy Systems Engineering Technician program will equip the students with the essential skills to understand various energy resources and their uses in modern society. This college diploma program will educate you with is a unique blend of theory and hands-on skills that are highly sought after in modern sustainable energy related companies and industries. During the period of studies, you’ll have the opportunity to work in our state-of-the-art energy systems labs and participate in applied research and development projects that will promote innovative skills. The technology program’s curriculum will take into account society’s changing views on sustainable design and the environment, and how they’re transforming the utility and construction sectors.

The utility sector, for example, is currently undergoing a radical shift in operating practice that opens the door to a range of innovative energy projects using small-scale sources — solar, wind, hydro, fuel cells, energy storage systems geo and biomass — to feed electricity, heat and air conditioning to homes and businesses. The construction industry, meanwhile, has adopted a host of new green building initiatives that are quickly increasing the awareness and use of sustainable and integrated architecture and engineering practices for new buildings. Manufacturers also have many new products that provide ways to implement advanced energy management in commercial and residential structures.The challenges and opportunities that arise in this applied science program will come from learning how to integrate and use all of these modern sustainable energy technologies in a manner consistent with our urban environments.

Centennial College has grown rapidly over the past several years, and demand for student housing outgrew the capacity of our older facility on Progress Avenue. Knowing that a lack of access to a residence is an impediment for students from outside the GTA, Centennial constructed the eight-storey Centennial Residence and Culinary Arts Centre at its Progress Campus. The striking new building takes the shape of a quadrangle with a central courtyard to allow natural light to reach all of the residence rooms. Housing up to 740 students in two- and four-bedroom arrangements, each suite includes its own kitchen and bathroom. Students also have access to communal kitchens and lounge spaces for larger social gatherings. Every resident has his or her own bedroom. For first year students, orientation activities for both academic and Centennial College Student Association programs, and personalized success plans are provided for you. You are also encouraged to take advantage of our free ‘success skills’ workshops offered throughout the year. Peer mentors and International advisors are also available at every campus to help you transition to life in Canada, and at Centennial.

Grade12 English Mathematics Applicants are required to have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature student status (19 years or older); English Grade 12 C or U, or equivalent (minimum grade required) or take the Centennial College English Skills Assessment for Admission; and Mathematics Grade 11 M or U, or 12 C or U, or equivalent (minimum grade required) or take a Centennial College Engineering Math Skills Assessment for Admission.
