The two-year Architectural Technician Ontario College Diploma program teaches you the skills and techniques to enter a career in the architecture and construction fields.

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites:* These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.

  •  Grade12 English
  •  Grade11 Mathematics
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent. Applicants with an OSSD showing senior English and/or Mathematics courses at the Basic Level, or with Workplace or Open courses, will be tested to determine their eligibility for admission; OR
  • Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) certificate; OR
  • General Educational Development (GED) certificate; OR
  • Mature Student status (19 years of age or older and without a high school diploma at the start of the program). Eligibility may be determined by academic achievement testing for which a fee of $50 (subject to change) will be charged.

About

Located in the nation’s capital, Algonquin College’s main campus is 15 minutes away from everything. National parks, museums and galleries, Canada’s largest high-tech community, and the Rideau Canal are all minutes from one of the most well equipped and largest college campuses in the country. Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology was established in 1967 and is located on the unceded territory of the Algonquin People, after whom the College was named.

The College has served over 50 years as a leader in post-secondary education and has undergone significant growth since its establishment. Algonquin College Campuses include Ottawa, Perth, Pembroke and Online. The Ottawa Campus features an innovative award-winning trades building (Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence), a first-of-its-kind Student Commons building, the DARE (Discovery, Applied Research, and Entrepreneurship) District which includes the College’s library and learning centre, an Indigenous Commons and a MakerSpace that allows students to get their hands on the latest technology. Most recently, The Algonquin Students’ Association completed construction of the Jack Doyle Athletics and Recreation Centre. This building provides students with the space they need to meet and exceed their fitness and recreation goals, as well as offer new challenges and experiences. The centre features gyms, a restaurant, rock climbing, bowling, an inside track, billiards, a golf simulator and more.

All rooms are shared occupancy with roommates designated by the Housing Administrator. Students can request a roommate if they have someone in mind. The Deposit for the Academic Year 2023-2024 is $500.00 and the total amount payable for two terms, fall through winter is $8,520 (payment options are available). A mandatory Meal Plan of a minimum $2,600 for two terms is required for first year residents (additional Meal Plan options are also available). Cultural

Ottawa is home to many national museums, including the Museum of History and the Museum of Science and Technology. Ottawa is also home to the prestigious National Art Gallery. The Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) provides educational support services to students with disabilities applying to or attending Algonquin College. Affiliated Institutions

The College offers joint degree programs with Carleton University and the University of Ottawa. There are also numerous articulation agreements with many other Canadian universities including Lakehead University, McMaster University, Toronto Metropolitan University, University of Lethbridge, Brock University, University of Guelph, Nipissing University, and others.

Admissions

You must be 19 years of age or older to register in any course. Students 18 years of age or less must possess an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent to register. Students under 19 years of age and without an OSSD will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Most programs have other admission criteria or requirements as well. These may include specific academic prerequisites, completion of an essay, test or questionnaire, submission of a portfolio and/or attendance at an information session. It is your responsibility to find out about and complete any mandatory program requirements. The specific admission requirements for each program are listed in detail in Programs & Courses.

Requirements for International Students

 

If your first language is not English, you will need to complete a language assessment or provide IELTS documentation or another English proficiency testing. Each program has published minimum scores for program eligibility. Procedure for Canadian Students

Applicants who wish to apply for a program must complete an application form through ontariocolleges.ca. An application fee (payable to ontariocolleges.ca) of $110, and an official transcript, must accompany your application form. Ontariocolleges.ca receives and records applications and applicant responses to offers of admission from the college(s).

 

Procedure for International Students

International Students: If you will be studying in Canada on a study permit from Citizenship and Immigration Canada, you must complete the International Student Application at https://algonquincollege.force.com/myACint/.

College fees are set in accordance with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities’ policies. Fees must be paid each term for you to officially register for your classes. Your costs will vary depending on your program of study, lifestyle and other variables.
