Lakehead University Student Union (LUSU) is run for students, by students. You can also get involved in one of the LUSU Centres, such as the Gender Equity Centre, Multicultural Centre, Pride Central, or the Food Bank. Opportunities to represent the student body on the University’s academic governance body, the Senate, and various Senate committees are also great ways to share the student voice and be involved.

ADMISSIONS

Requirements for International Students

 

Unless otherwise noted, all Lakehead University programs require an Ontario Secondary School Diploma; a minimum of 6 Grade 12 U or M courses, including program-specific prerequisite courses; and a minimum overall 70% average based on the best 6 Grade 12 U or M courses.

If your first language is not English, and you cannot verify having recently studied in an English language school system for more than three full years of full-time study, you will be required to present proof of English language proficiency. Lakehead University accepts the following recognized tests as proof of English language proficiency. Alternatively, you can choose to complete Lakehead University’s Academic English Program prior to your undergraduate studies.

  • CAEL: minimum score 60
  • Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: minimum English score 176, no component score less than 169
  • IELTS: minimum score 6.5, no individual score less than 6.0
  • TOEFL iBT: minimum score 80, no component score less than 19
  • PTE Academic: minimum score 58, no component score less than 50

If you do not meet the English Language Proficiency scores, you will be automatically considered for admission through Lakehead University’s Academic English Program (AEP). You will need to successfully complete AEP before proceeding into an academic program.

 

Procedure for International Students

 

Applying to Lakehead is an easy process, and we are here to help. Our team of Recruiters and Student Central Professionals are here to support you every step of the way, whether it is to answer questions about program requirements, discuss transfer credits from other institutions or being prepared for upcoming deadlines.

Step 1

Confirm you have the necessary grades and pre-requisites. Visit lakeheadu.ca/admissions to check for your individual program requirements.

Step 2

Apply online using the Undergrad (105) Application at ouac.on.ca/ouac-105.

Step 3

Receive an acknowledgement email and access your myInfo account, usually within five business days of applying.

Step 4

Continue to review the status of your application. Check your Lakehead email and your myInfo account. Reach out at lakeheadu.ca/admissions if you need to contact us.

Step 5

Apply for scholarships and bursaries. Lakehead offers over $11 million in scholarships, bursaries, and awards. You can complete your profile and start applying on myInfo starting August 15.

Step 6

Apply for residence. Residence is guaranteed to all high school students provided they’re admitted by June 1, 2021. Apply for Residence through your myInfo account.

Step 7

Accept your offer. Congratulations on being admitted to Lakehead University! Your hard work, determination and commitment to your studies has paid off.

Notes: Undergraduate Students: Lakehead University is a two term, eight-month academic session institution; however, courses are also offered in the spring/summer semester. Our school offers full course equivalent credits (two term courses) and one half course equivalent credits (one term courses). Most of our undergraduate programs are designed with courses that are calendared as full course equivalent credits or half course equivalent credits that require successful completion of the fall session prerequisite course. Therefore, almost all of our programs require that a student begin their program of study at Lakehead University in the fall session (September).
