Founded in 1954, King’s University College at Western University is a Catholic, liberal arts university college affiliated with a large, world class university. Areas of Expertise

 

King’s University College is a liberal arts, university college with disciplines in the Arts, Social Science, and Social Work (both BSW and MSW). We also offer specialized degrees in Catholic Studies for Teachers, Childhood and Youth Studies, Finance and Wealth Management, Social Justice and Peace Studies, Disability Studies, Human Rights Studies, Thanatology as well as Management and Organizational Studies with specializations in Accounting, Finance, Global Commerce and Human Resources.

The Common First Year

Your first year in Arts, Social Science, Childhood and Social Institutions and Social Justice and Peace Studies will provide you with the opportunity to explore a wide variety of disciplines. You will take introductory courses and gain broad knowledge while meeting new friends with a wide range of backgrounds and interests. By the end of this year, you will be able to make an informed decision about choosing your major based on your academic strengths and interests.

There are four possible modules of study, which may be entered after your first year:
– Honours Specialization (9.0 or more specified principal courses)
– Specialization (9.0 or more specified principal courses)
– Major (6.0 to 7.0 specified principal courses)
– Minor (4.0 to 5.0 specified principal courses)

Residence is guaranteed to all new-to-King’s students who submit their residence application by the guarantee deadline.

There are approximately 400 residence spaces available in a range of options as single rooms or double rooms in single and mixed gender units. Upper year housing is also available for students. Off Campus Housing

 

Off campus housing is available for students within the city of London. Western University’s Off-Campus Housing Service provides a variety of housing options with over 5,000 listings annually. https://offcampus.uwo.ca/.

Many students choose to move off campus after their first year at King’s; however, upper year housing is now available in the King’s Commons and Epworth Place Houses: https://www.kings.uwo.ca/current-students/student-affairs/residence/.

 

Incoming Students

 

Programs for students in their first year include individual appointments with a learning skills strategist, peer learning coaches, individual academic counselling, free math, writing and English as a second language tutoring, an academic peer guide program, an off-campus peer guide program; orientation (academic and social program), and residence-based transition programs.

 

Career Planning

 

King’s Career Connect is a service offered to students providing individual counselling to help them clarify career goals, job search assistance, and access to personality and interest testing. Students will have access to a range of events like job fairs, workshops for resume building and professionalism, as well as career days to explore employment possibilities after graduation. Students also have access to the Student Development Centre at Western University’s campus.

 

Sports

 

There are 36 varsity teams at at Western University which King’s University College students can participate on. This academic year, 160 Western varsity athletes, from a wide range of sports, are registered as students at King’s. For those not interested in varsity level sports, there is an extensive intramural program. Using your Western Student OneCard, you will have access to the Western Fitness Centre on the main campus or you can choose to work out in the Fitness Area in The King Centre.

 

Activities

 

The King Student Life Centre is the hub of student life at King’s University College. Housing a 450 seat theatre, students can listen to community speakers, catch a special screening of film, or enjoy one of the annual theatre productions hosted by our own student theatre club, the King’s Players. Adjacent to the Cardinal Carter library, students have a welcoming space to hang out and grab a coffee at Cafe 54, buy King’s branded swag items at The King’s Connection, study in any of the study rooms, relax or take a yoga or meditation class in the reflection room.

Alternatively, you can hop on one of the many shuttle buses operating between King’s and Western and explore the many opportunities available to you as a student.

 

Clubs

 

With over 200 clubs available to you between King’s and Western, as well as a range of cultural and athletic activities, you will most definitely find something that interests you! Students interested in participating in student government are able to participate either on the King’s University College Students’ Council (KUCSC) or on Western’s University Students’ Council (USC). If you are interested in media, you can get involved with the university radio or television station or, if writing is your preference, The Regis is a student-run magazine offered through King’s, and The Western Gazette is Canada’s only daily student newspaper.

 

Information Technology

 

King’s University College Information Technology Services provides computing and data infrastructure services for teaching, learning and administrative systems while providing support to students, staff and faculty. The King’s campus is wireless and all students receive a Western student email account. This account provides secure access to the internet, online courses, computer labs and is the primary way in which King’s and Western will communicate with you.

 

Cultural

 

There are a range of cultural opportunities and events to engage with throughout the school year. One of the favourites is the King’s Cultural Festival which is the biggest annual multicultural event on campus attended by many students, staff, faculty and residents from across Western and the City of London. Performances showcasing various cultural traditions may include: dance, singing, poetry, story-telling and country presentations. King’s Campus Ministry hosts the Veritas Series for Faith and Culture endeavors to foster learning and dialogue by gathering our community together, as we seek to live lives of faith and justice. This annual speaker series invites international speakers to engage the community on relevant and topical issues. With the wide range of interests, perspectives, religious and ethnic backgrounds of our community, there are a multitude of activities for you to explore.

King’s provides a range of services to help students successfully transition to post-secondary and provide support throughout their studies to graduation. Academic advising and and accessibility services, personal, spiritual and financial counselling, learning skills support and academic mentoring are all available to help you make the most of your studies. Student groups with special needs, such as Indigenous, Mature and international students can find a variety of services that have been customized to their specific interests. Our Residence offers countless opportunities to enhance your university learning and to share your university experience with other students. International Involvement

 

King’s University College is committed to internationalization and intercultural learning. King’s has exchange agreements with over 50 universities in 25 countries. Through King’s University College partnerships, students have studied in China, Japan, UK, France, Germany, South Korea, Brazil, Australia and other countries. Students can study for a term or an academic year while earning academic credits towards their degree and paying your tuition to King’s. They can also participate in summer programs. Studying abroad benefits students academically, professionally and personally.

Western International’s new certificate program recognizes students’ global and intercultural experience in both academic and extracurricular activities at King’s, Western, in the community, elsewhere in Canada, or in another country. Students accumulate points and attend an intercultural workshop. Welcome to the Forest City! King’s is located in London, Ontario, the 11th largest city in Canada and home to approximately 495,000 people. It is conveniently located in Southwestern Ontario just a two hour drive from Toronto and the U.S. border at Detroit Michigan or Buffalo New York.

London has over 40 public parks and over 100 km of walking and biking trails throughout the city. it houses a rich Arts and Culture community with many festivals throughout the year. There is a vibrant music and sports entertainment scene through Budweiser Gardens the 10,000 seat area and for those outdoor enthusiasts; enjoy the many golfing, skiing, mountain biking and skating opportunities at venues throughout the city. ADMISSIONS

Requirements for Canadian Students

 

For admission to King’s University College, applicants will have completed their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with at least six Grade 12U/M courses including Grade 12U English. Students applying from other provinces in Canada can contact the Office of Enrolment Services at King’s or review our website: https://www.kings.uwo.ca/future-students/admissions/admission-requirements/high-school/. The minimum grade average required for most programs is 80%.
