July 4, 2019
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada released a 2018 year-end report on July 2, 2019. The report confirms that Canada invited more than 90.000 applicants to immigrate through Express Entry system in 2018. The increase in admission of new immigrants is in line with Canada’s rising admission targets for the three Federal immigration programs as well as Provincial Nominee Program.
In addition to the Federal immigration streams, Canada’s provinces have their own immigration programs. Candidates for Provincial Nominee Programs are selected from Express Entry pool and invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence. Each province offers its own immigration streams for skilled workers, professionals in skilled trades, business owners/managers, international students and others based on the specific labour and immigration needs of each province.
Canada’s target to admit new immigrants through federal and Provincial Nominee immigration programs is expected to increase each year through 2021.
Invited candidates through Express Entry System.
Candidates who meet the requirements of one of the federal immigration programs (Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class) are eligible to join Express Entry pool. Candidates in Express Entry pool will be ranked based on a score awarded under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Points are awarded for the candidate’s age, working experience, sophisticated English or French language skills, level of education and other factors. Once candidates join Express Entry pool, they will be able to basically compete with all other candidates within a year and the highest ranked candidates are invited to apply for immigration. If the candidate is not invited to apply within a year, Express Entry profile will be automatically deleted and candidates may submit new application to join the Express Entry pool. Generally, highest-ranked candidates are invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence from Express Entry pool every two weeks through regular draws.
2018 year-end report shows the results of adjustments to the Comprehensive Ranking System and it continues to simplify the process of immigration for candidates of Federal Skilled Worker Class and Canadian Experience Class.
